After more than thirty years as a professor of history at Stanford University and the University of Arizona, I have begun writing and broadcasting on current events. In this blog, I hope to gather thoughtful reflections about how a society treats some people as opposed to others. Introducing TEMPO and HUP will, I hope, inspire contributions from different perspectives: friendly amendments and outright disagreement. Comments and alternative essays will be posted if they meet the criteria of civil discourse outlined here. Perhaps we can find a consensus on how to address some of the disagreements that divide us today.
